European Games Developer Federation (EGDF)

The EGDF is an umbrella organization on the European level. Its members are the national game developer associations like “game e.V.” from Germany.

The European Games Developer Federation represents game studios based in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Norway, Malta, Poland, Romania, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Turkey and the United Kingdom, which together employ over 40,000 people.

The EGDF lobbies for the interests of mostly smaller and medium sized game developers on European decision maker level as small developers often lack the funding to do so. The EGDF gives a mandate to associations to speak on their behalf on important issues. Some examples are: copyright laws, labour laws, data protection issues, education, protection of minors etc. etc.

rcp’s involvement: Hendrik Lesser has been the president of the Federation since 2015, and a board member since 2013.

game e.V.

This is the association of the German games industry. Its members include developers, publishers and many other games industry actors such as e-sports companies, institutions and service providers. Its mission is to make Germany the best games location.

rcp’s involvement: We are members and participate actively. Christian Kluckner – Co-founder and MD of Chimera Entertainment – is an Executive Board Member of game e.V.

Games Bavaria Munich (GBM)

The Games Bavaria Munich e.V. was founded in 2015 by the Bavarian developer scene to represent the common interests of local companies in the gaming industry.

The association acts as a mouthpiece for the developers in politics, business and society. At the same time, it offers a forum for mutual exchange and cooperation.

rcp’s involvement: Hendrik Lesser has been a board member and managing director of the association since its inception.

Videospielkultur (VSK)

The goal of Videospielkultur e.V. is to promote video games as a cultural medium that can also be perceived as art in society. To make this happen the VSK has one of the biggest archives of video games in all of Europe (>10k games), holds events like the “Games Lounge”, supports academic research and connects people. The club was founded by a private group of friends/associates in a time when video games did not have a high standing in German public culture.

rcp’s involvement: Hendrik Lesser co-founded the club in 2006 and is a board member and managing director.

Leaders of rcp studios are active in national and international associations:
